Comments on Junks in Halong Bay...

Apparently the Emeraude junks are under repair when Im in the area. Is anyone familiar with THE LAGOON EXPLORER or the DRAGON PEARL junks from TROPICAL SAILS? Are they equal with the Emeraude junk?

Check out Buffalo Tours. I took an overnight tour of Halong Bay with them a few years ago...things may have changed, but the were a total of about 10 guests on the junk, a great cabin, and great great food, including fresh seafood....a great experience (and will help you again to avoid the rolling pin!).

I second Ellielou on Bufallo tours, went on their junk over night and had a great time, very well looked after. The Emeraude is a bit big and inpersonal, I prefer the smaller Junks like buffalo

I also wanted to go on the Emeraude Cruise however its in for maintenance. Must be going at the same time. We have booked the Ginger Junk Cruise which looks just as luxurious but maybe a little more personal. It is also quite a new boat.
