Accommodation (monthly) Posted: Mon March 12, 2007 01:32 AM UTC
Hi there
My boyfriend and I are planning on moving to Q-Town for a couple of months during the ski season. I've been doing a bit of research and hear that it's pretty hard to find accommodation in the town itself during this time and I was wondering if anyone knew of the surrounding areas close by that might be a little easier to find a place to live in, but are still reasonably accessible to Queenstown itself? We're not looking for anything remotely 5-star (quite the opposite) as we'd just be living, working and boarding when we can - nothing major. Is it likely that our only options would be hostel-type places, as we're sort of after something with a little more privacy?
Also if anyone has any good leads on places to stay or agencies that do short term rental (two to three months), that would be great!
Thanks
Steph

Hi, try that link to a site called trade me, if you are a NZ'er sorry if this sounds familiar, but if you are not, it is NZ's ebay!!
They have rent for rooms in Frankton - 5min drive to Q-town and Fernhill - just up the hill, maybe a 30min walk/2 min drive.
I would suggest getting onto something early, ppl find it hard later on but not too horrible at the very start of (or even before) the season.
Good luck

Yep I agree with what's been said. I was in QTown last week and talking to some foreigners working there. They said it's easy to get accommodation during the summer season, they had rooms available in their house even. But when Ski season hits they pretty much get snapped up. So the earlier you can get there the more chance you have of somewhere close.
I was staying at Fernhill and there is a bus that services that area regularly.
It may even be worth securing a place a couple of weeks before you go, send the money over, and jump the gun if you can.
