Arnhem Visiting Arnhem Directions
Posted: Sun March 11, 2007 11:43 AM UTC
Good Morning. Myself and a friend will be visiting Amsterdam between 25th and 30th March. We would like to take one day out to visit Arnhem, especially Oosterbeek Cemetery, Airborne Museum, Kroller Muller Museum in Hoge Veluwe National Park and around the town of Arnhem itself. I know this will be a lot to see in the one day but we will do our best depending on transport. We will take a train from Amsterdam Central to Arnhem. Can anybody help us from there with details of public transport from Arnhem Station to the various places, then walking directions from getting off the bus/train etc ? Because of the short time we have we need to be prepared and not having to find out directions when we arrive. Thanks in anticipation Sandy x

Go to Oosterbeek by train (change trains at Arnhem).

The cemetery is just North of the Oosterbeek Station (follow signs).

The Airborne Museum is at 10 minutes walking South of the station at the Utrechtsestraat 232.

Oosterbeek map:

For the Kroller Muller Museum go back to the Arnhem station; trolleybus #10 is a good option (or go by train if you have a return ticket).

From the Arnhem station take BBA bus 105s (direction Harderwijk) to Otterlo centrum and change bus to BBA bus 106 (direction Hoge Veluwe) to the Houtkampweg bus stop.
The Kroller Muller Museum is at 4 minutes walking.

To go back to Amsterdam take the bus 106 back to Otterlo. From there you can go both ways with bus 108: Ede-Wagingen or Apeldoorn. From those locations you can take the train back to Amsterdam.

you can take a train from Amsterdam to Oosterbeek (one train change at Ede-Wageningen). In Oosterbeek, when you leave the platform (there's no more than that, just the platform), walk away from the railway, down Stationsstraat to Utrechtsestraat (5 minutes).
At the crossing, look right and you'll see the war monument (an obelisk shape also known as The Needle). Walk that direction, keep left and find the museum on your left.

After your visit you can either take the train one stop further to Arnhem or take a bus from Utrechtsestraat, direction Arnhem.

Check www.kmm.nl to get from Arnhem to Kroller Muller.
You can take a train from Arnhem back to Ede-Wageningen and there's busses from there to the museum.

You've planned an extremely full day. I'm thinking it won't do justice to the fine museums you're about to visit, really. Kroller Muller and the national park would take at least a full day in itself.

In Arnhem I can recommend the Bronbeek museum (about our colonial history). Unfortunately the excellent museum of modern arts is closed until May 31st. I went to high school there and visited the museum almost every day. Sorry... memories coming up!
