| Karlsruhe | Visiting Karlsruhe in April (for Resale 2007 exhibition) Posted: Sun March 11, 2007 08:48 AM UTC
Hello,
My brother and I are on our business trip to Germany in April from India. We are first visiting Hannover (Hannover Messe) then Karlsruhe (Resale 2007) and lastly Munich (BAUMA). I am planning to leave Hannover by CityNightLine train on April 18 to reach Karlsruhe on April 19 morning. Most of the hotels offer 2PM check-in but we will be there at 5:30 AM. Is there any hotel with 6-7AM check-in which is also economical? We will have 19th & 20th evenings to enjoy the town and nearby surroundings - any advice? I will love to try local breweries and German beer. Any ideas for Black Forest trip? We will be going to Munich on April 21 by train and can take detour on that day. Thanks in advance! |

Another option I have is to travel Munich by car.
I have USA and Indian driving license and hopefully one of them should be valid in Germany. Do you suggest travelling from Karlsruhe to Munich by car or BAHN is much better option? Also, if I can't find any good economical hotel/zimmer in Karlsruhe I am planning to get a zimmer in Pforzheim. But then I will have to either travel both days to Exhibition. Or at least drive to Karlsruhe Hbf then park the car there and take the shuttle bus to exhibition. What do locals advise regarding finding parking at Karlsruhe Hbf and/or near exhibition? Thanks!

hi there,
Hotel: Guess You have to definite whats economical. How much will You spend for the hotel. For ex. a double at the Acora is about 180 Euro for 2 days, at the Berliner Hof 150. But sure You have to hurry to make the reservation. You sure won't safe money (and waste a lot of time) staying in Pforzheim and driving to Karlsruhe - even by train or car. And if You have a car it will be better to go directly to the fair and not park at the train station. More hotels You will find here, they have a english page: http://www1.karlsruhe.de/Tourismus/ Perhaps more cheaper, take a look here: http://www.deutsche-pensionen.de/pension-karlsruhe/ A check in at about 6 or 7 am ? You wont find at any hotel. There are still other guests sleeping :-) But for sure You can leave Your baggage at the hotel. Evenings to explore. Dont forget to take a look at the castle. Not so sure when it closes. Beer: The Vogelbräu, Kapellenstraße 50, is a good one. The Badisch Brauhaus, Stephaniestr. haas a good beer, but bad food. If You dont mind, drop me a line. Perhaps I'm in town and we can meet for a beer. Baden-Baden and the casino will be an idea. Black forest? I guess You wont have lot of fun just going there on a evening. This is something to hike on a day or more. Going to Munich depends on. The train connection is very good and fast. The highways aren't a hit at the moment because of roadworks. Also You have to pay oneway for the rented car, so the train will be cheaper. have fun Gar

Thanks everyone for your reply.
The most important part I understood from above - 1) Avoid car travelling as much as I can. 2) Try to stay in Karlsruhe 3) Travel by public transport. Here are some of the options I have. Gasthaus Zum Ritter Hauptstraße 70 76689 Karlsdorf-Neuthard 57 EUR 5 EUR p.p. Breakfast Elite Hotel (I think it's same as Eden Hotel) Sachsenstraße 17 - 19 76137 Karlsruhe 78 EUR Breakfast included Hotel Schröcker Tor Mannheimer Straße 1 76344 Leopoldshafen 79.20 EUR 9 EUR p.p. Breakfast Below are some other hotels that I can get under 70 EUR per day with breakfast extra. Achat Hotel Bretten Am Seedamm 8 Bretten , DE 75015 Kull Von Schmidsfelden Hotel Area: 13.6 mi from Karlsruhe (Bad Herrenalb) Non Smoker Hotel Sonnenbring Area: 18.5 mi from Karlsruhe (Bad Wildbad) Achat Hotel Karlsruhe An Der Vogelhardt 10 Karlsruhe , DE 76149 Holiday Inn Garden Court Rastatt / Baden-baden Area: 12.2 mi from Karlsruhe (Rastatt) What do you suggest for hotel from above? Any other suggestions? The place was planning to book in Pforzheim is around 55 EUR/day and is B&B place. Also, currently I am planning to travel from Hannover to Karlsruhe by City Night Line. Couch-6 cabin is for 109 EUR and couch-4 cabin is for 119 EUR. The reason I was thinking to take night train was so that we don't loose time. Otherwise I am paying for hotel at Hannover for 18th. Is there any other option besides taking night train? Thanks!

1) Avoid car travelling as much as I can. 2) Try to stay in Karlsruhe 3) Travel by public transport. Yes, yes, yes. Gasthaus Zum Ritter, 76689 Karlsdorf-Neuthard Is about 18 km from KA Elite Hotel (I think it's same as Eden Hotel) 76137 Karlsruhe No, that are 2 different hotels. Eden is full booked. Hotel Schröcker Tor, 76344 Leopoldshafen A little bit ouside, about 12 km too far away are: Achat Hotel Bretten, Bretten , Kull Von Schmidsfelden Hotel Bad Herrenalb Holiday Inn Garden Court Rastatt / Baden-baden Non Smoker Hotel Sonnenbring Bad Wildbad Other options: http://www.hotel-betzler.de (from 53 euros double) http://www.pension-anita.com (from 73 euro double) http://www.hotel-berliner-hof.de/ (from 69 euro) Have You checked: http://www.deutsche-pensionen.de/pension-karlsruhe/ ? About night trains I dont know anything. Ir depends on the comfort You want I guess. But I have never rode on one. Have a nice time Richard

There have been some last minute changes - Instead of two of us - there will be six of us.
Three people will travel from Hannover to Karlsruhe on April 17. Other three people will travel from Hannover to Karlsruhe on April 18 night or 19th morning. And we all will leave from Karlsruhe to Munich on April 21. I am talking with couple of zimmers in Pforzheim who will be charging 25 EUR per person/per night. Are there any other better/economical options? As now we are 6 people - will car make more sense for internal travel in Karlsruhe and ReSale fair? I think for Munich, train will be cheaper. What sight seeing activities can we do as a group? Thanks! (btw - we all 6 are businessmen - guys - unfotunately - lol) Lastly - are there any cheap rates for trains from Hannover to Karlsruhe/Pforrzheim for 3 people? From Karlsruhe to Munich - how can by buy group ticket for 6 people? The online site shows only option for 5 people. Thanks!
