I assume you are talking about the Fort- El Morro? It is like a museum- you go and wander around in it. The ranger service gives a tour a few times a day.
But it is large and impressive- lots of rooms and places to explore. Kids love it! The sister fort- San Cristobal is neat too- I like the dungeon and the drawings from the prisoners on the walls. On Monday nights here, they have a dance show (at 6-6:45p).

kite flying every weekend on top of El Morro. also ALL the museums around El Morro are closed every monday, despite what the guidebooks say....

El Morro has one of the most breathtaking views of the Atlantic. Scenes from Spielberg's movie "Amistad" about African slaves were shot here. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes & clothes and a hat with a large brim. Best to come early in the morning and leave before noon, as it's quite hot during the afternoon hours. I have no idea how the Spaniards could stand it wearing their military uniforms--they must have fainted from heat exhaustion.
