| Jiddah | Working in Jiddah Posted: Thu March 8, 2007 10:57 AM UTC
Need help from any one living in Jeddah. I am planning to move to Jeddah for Work from UK. I appreciate if any one can help me with the following questions.
1: Are there any English schools in Jeddah? 2: What sort of entertainment activities available in Jeddah? 3: How difficult is to travel to Makkah from Jeddah at week end. 4: How the cost of living is over there, I know it is a difficult question but if you can just give me a rough idea will be a big help. 5: how difficult is to have internet access/ what sort of internet access is available e.g ADSL etc. |

hi,
-there are many international schools in Jeddah as well as private Saudi schools which teachs both Arabic & English. -entertainment in Jeddah is mainly two things: shopping and dining out. plus some recreation & sports activities(beach activities,Jeddah marathon, horse back riding...ect[check my Jiddah page]. -from Jeddah to Makkah by car is about 1:30 hours(it`s 80 KM). -cost of living....not too expensive, but not cheap either. -internet access is very easy and available as dail up or DSL or sattlite. best wishes. marimar_72

Cost of leving & food very very cheap as compared to uk.For normal people living in normal areas a single room will cost u 500-600 SAR Per month (roughly 150 $ Per month). If u get small flat of two bed rooms +kitchen+bathroom then monthly flat rent will be 1000-1200 SAR per month.Rent is often paid for 3,4 or 6 months advance duration. Light bill very cheap (roughly will come 50-100 SAR every month. Home landline phone rental charges will be 10 $ per month. ADSL line is easily available on same phone landlines.Internet cost per month for 64 kbps will me (90+60=150 SAR),256 kbps speed will be (100+150=250 SAR /Month)....its available upto 4 Mega ps now! www.stc.com.sa
