How can I get from Lyon to Annecy without renting a car or going by Eurorail?

There is also a possibility to take the bus between the Lyon St. Exupery airport and Annecy. There are approximately 5 busses a day, but you have to make a reservation at least 4 days before you come. Otherwise there is a risk that the bus won't leave.

The price for a one-way ticket is 30.40 Euros. If you book the return-ticket at the same time, the price is 45.60 Euros for the two ways.

Also, you can try contacting SIBRA who runs the buses in Annecy to see if they can direct you further for buses from Lyon to Annecy or vice-versa.

I don't know what you mean by Eurorail but it's a 2 hour trip on the SNCF French train from Lyon to Annecy. The station in Annecy is right by the Old Town and there is a very nice Logis de France within a couple blocks. It's an easy walk to the lake and all through the historic section.
