We will be on the Disney Cruise in July and will spend one day in Palermo. We would like to spend most of the day relaxing at a beach. Can anyone give me instructions on how to get to the closest - nicest beach via bus or taxi and what the cost should be? Also is there a link for a bus schedule available?
We would hope the beach has bathroom facilities and a recommendation for a place for lunch would help. And any tips on things we can do in the area of the port - anything in walking distance? would be helpful too!

You'll want to go to Mondello, this is the main/nicest/closest beach for Palermo. Facilities, and a number of good restaurants. You can get the bus from Piazza Politeama to Mondello on line 806. Maybe 1/2 hr from the ciy to the beach. From the port area to Piazza Politeama is not very clsoe, but we were there last weekend and walked it in a 1/2 an hour or so. A Taxi should'nt be to much, and perhaps someone here will chime in with a better option.

There's not much nice at the port area, but the center of town is within a 1/2 hr walk. Lots to do there depending on your interests. Just watch out, the rough/shady neighborhoods in Palermo Abound.
