| Grand Bahama Island | nightlife ? Posted: Wed March 7, 2007 01:41 AM UTC
My friend and I are headed out to Grand Bahama Island in June and I was wondering if you could let me know the best ( and safest) places for two 25 year old girls to meet some fun people and have some fun on the island. I have been reading some of the reviews and I am seeing that the nightlife is not the greatest compared to the other islands and I was wondering if you had any good tips or places you could suggest. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks, char

I'd suggest the Westin resort or the Sheraton resort. Go to the Westin and/or Sheraton website, or google it on Expedia.com to see where you can get the best price.
Here's a link to the Sheraton resort: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/ov Yes, the nightlife is not the greatest on this island, but Grand Bahama is sooo much cheaper than Nassau, especially in June when tons of people will be flocking there once schools let out. The Westin & Sheraton are adjacent to each other, and also have a casino & little "shopping mall" attached to it. Across the street from these two resorts is the Port Lucaya Marketplace: http://www.portlucayamarketplace.com/ This is a fun area to hang out, some shops, restaurants, bars, etc., and is always crawling with people and well lit so it's relatively safe. The Westin & Sheraton are on the ocean side of the island, and the Marketplace is on the Marina side, so you probably would enjoy staying at one of the two resorts I listed as you will be able to bask in the sun on the beautiful white sand beach! The Marina side is more for your nightlife. Oh, and the Westin and Sheraton are basically at the end of the island and at the end of the road, so when going across the street to the Marketplace you will not be crossing a street with major traffic. Be warned though, food & beers are kinda pricey. When we go we buy a case or two (or more, ha ha) of beer and keep it in our room so we can get a lil' buzz on without breaking the bank. Ok now, I've been married to my hubby for 12 years now, we party all the time, have NO kids (thank goodness), and travel everywhere. But let me play mom for a second. You two are so gorgeous and sweet looking. DO NOT bring any boys back to your room. DO NOT tell any boys your room number. DO NOT offer any boys a free beer from your room, or let them sway you into going up to their room for a drink. And STAY TOGETHER at all times. Go to the bathroom together. Walk back to the room together. And do not, under any circumstances, leave an open drink unattended. There are nut-jobs out there. You don't want to end up like Natalie Holloway. Seriously. Be safe, have fun, get lots of sun, and enjoy. The beach in front of the Westin & Sheraton is lovely. Bask in the sun, enjoy the cold cold beers, and take care of each other!

stay in port lucaya, or around the resorts. There are other local events on the island at times, like fish fry on wed. that a bus will take you to aswell.
just stay away from dark, unpopulated areas and you'll be fine. I have many friends and family members down there, and thet're good people.

Hey,
We are coming to Port Lucaya in June also! I guess we are kinda in the same situation as you girls. Thought we were planning a vacation where we could lay on the beach all day then go hit the night clubs at night and meet people and everything, but sounds like we are going to the wrong island! we are both 23 and coming from Baltimore, MD. Going from June 5-10, let me know if you girls want to meet up for a drink and try and make this trip fun! Have fun! Chris&Dave
