Zeebrugge Taxi/Train?
Posted: Tue March 6, 2007 09:19 AM UTC
My wife is in a wheelchair and we need to know if train or taxi would be best leaving the ferry port in Zeebrugge to go to Brugge for a couple of days stay. How much would the two options cost? Many thanks

It would certainly be easier by taxi as not only would you have to get from the ferry to Zeebrugge Dorp (village) station and from Brugge station to your hotel, but trains and most stations are not very wheelchair accessible, although Belgian Railways can offer assistance, see http://www.able-travel.com/guides/belgium.htm and http://www.b-rail.be/nat/E/practical/limitedmobility/index.php.
A single train ticket to Brugge from Zeebrugge Dorp costs 2.50 EUR, return would therefore be 5 EUR. The facilities guide indicates that that station has a low platform - Belgian trains are high up! - and that there are no staff there to assist with mobility. At Brugge on the other hand, such staff are available from 06.00 till 22.00 every day and there is a lift between platforms 5 and 6.
This taxi company specialises in wheelchair passengers, you could phone or e-mail them for a quote for this transfer: Taxi Hendriks Gent, tel. 32-9/216.80.20, e-mail: info@hendriks.be
If there is no need for any special vehicle/assistance, a local Zeebrugge taxi company is Taxi Quick, Tel: 32-50/54.44.69 Fax: 32-50/55.02.77. I have seen a quote for this exact trip, from www.brugsetaxiservice.com, at 90 EUR for the round trip - no doubt you will specify whether you also want them for the return journey.
All numbers given are as you would call them from outside Belgium, if you call from here you would drop the 32 and add 0.
Bon voyage!
