Xiamen Xiamen and Shantou
Posted: Mon March 5, 2007 04:33 AM UTC
End of the month will arrive in Xiamen for 2 days. Then proceed south to Shantou in Guangdong Prov for another three days. What can we see or visit on the way to Shantou and how long is the trip? What is the distance like by car? We are a family and what are the places of interests for these two cities?

If you have enough time to make a detour, see the Hakka roundhouses along the way.

Xiamen is a very clean and beautiful city. You should stop there. From there it's only about 4 hours by car to Shantou.

Thanks for info.. as travelling with my elderly parents to visit relatives in Shantou, would like to make journey smooth and hassle free for them (total 5 adults and 1 kid). As travel time from Xiamen to Shantou takes 4 hours by coach, will there by frequent stops for nature call? As this is a main concern for my parents, was wondering if better to charter a small coach bus instead. Any contacts for charter coach ? Where and how do I get to Xiamen long distance bus terminal from Xiamen Airport? Any hotels to recommend for Xiamen and Shantou. Thanks very much!!

You don't need to go to Xiamen downtown to go to Shantou. There're long-distance buses from Xiamen airport itself. Schedule (correct as of August 2006) is 0855/0955/1055/1225/1355/1455/1555/1655/1855/2025, 90 RMB/pax.
As for your toilet question, I'm pretty sure it should stop once enroute. Even if it doesn't, simply empty your bladder before you board the bus, and limit your fluid intake during the ride! Very simple answer there!
