You don't have to go via Oslo - you can travel by bus Ålesund - Bergen, change buses there and travel on to Stavanger.

You might have to stay one night in Bergen though - not sure if there are any connecting buses. (But Bergen is a very nice city!!!!;o) You might also want to check out the express boat Bergen - Stavanger: www.flaggruten.no

Thanks Mette!
I find the route Ålesund - Bergen!! (about 9 hours 20 minutes to get to Bergen) I am sure I will stop in Bergen!! actually I have been to Bergen in the Christmas eve of 2004 , and I have a drawing about the train station: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=139639599& I try to find another stop between Ålesund and Bergen ! and I see there is a blue line between Ålesund and Bergen in this map: http://nor-way.no/nbe/frontend/files/CONTENT/2006_ is that means they offer ferry ?

The blue line = hurtigruten, the coastal voyager, which goes between Bergen and Kirkenes in the far north, and calls at numerous ports along the way (including Ålesund). You could take the Hurtigruten between Ålesund and Bergen, but it probably wouldn't be the cheapest option... See this site for more info:

If you are seriously into cliffs and do not suffer from vertigo, and find bumping along the coast a bummer, there is a better place than Prekestolen, and much closer to Ålesund, namely Trollveggen. You can travel either Ålesund-Åndalsnes and up the Trollstigen road, or Ålesund-Geiranger-Tafjord to take in the view, then the Trollstig road from Tafjord up to the top of the road at Trollstighytta. From there you can walk up to the to the Trolltind ridge with minimum equipment (however, the trail is rudimentary so seek local advice)and look down into Åndalsnes/Romsdals fjord complex and Romsdals valley, a sheer drop three times higher than that of Prekestolen (about 1700 meters).

HIhi Olav!
just now I check the website about Trollveggen, wow, so amazing!!!! ...I will be there :D Trollveggen is really not very famous for foreigner like me... thank you so much for your introduction about this place...!!! I wish to see a view like this: http://www.trollveggen.net/framsiden1.jpg but what is "Litlefjellet in Vengedalen"? is it easy to access? If I want to visit Trollveggen for several times, is that good to stay in Åndalsnes hostel? or is there any hostel or mountain lodge with dorm bed close to Trollveggen (like Preikestolhytta)? (no camp site...) and what is "Trollstighytta"?? Prekestolen is my "must go" ,if I do not go south alone the coast, I will go via Geiranger & Flam & Voss ... also interested in Jotunheimen National Park ... actually "cliff/mountain with special shape" is my "THEME" of travel, and this time I plan to visit Scandinavia for over 2 months....but I am not an experienced hiker...anyway, I do need local people to recommend me some spectacular place...! from Stavanger to Oslo, I plan to fly , but from Voss or Bergen to Stavanger , is there any scenic place?

Yeah, but there's no railway along the coast from Bergen to Stavanger - you'll have to go via Oslo! So that will take quite a while...
