Hunan Sheng Travel Forum

I will be traveling to Hengdong (South of Changsha), Hunan, China this summer and have a few questions. Where would be a good place to stay? What would be some things to see in the area? Would it be worth it to take the train there as we would be coming form the Guangzho/Hong Kong area? Or take a plane to Changsha and than a bus/van to Hengdong? Any other advice by those who have visited or live in the area would be appreciated. Thank you.

My guess is that you're an adopting parent. Am I right?

Is there even a train station at Hengdong?
Guangzhou -- Changsha is an easy overnight train ride though.

The cheapest way to get there from Guangzhou is by train to Hengyang and then transfer onto the direct bus to Hengdong. Flying to Changsha and taking the train south to Hengshan is faster but a little more expensive.

The area around Hengshan is worth a look for its mountain scenery and the usual temple hopping, especially on July 1 during the huge temple festival.
