You can't move to North Korea. They will not even let you visit without special permission from the government. That's why you don't see much non-North Korean news footage of the country or ever hear much about it.

| North Korea | Moving to North Korea? Why not! Posted: Thu March 1, 2007 02:56 PM UTC
You may cross the border freely from either China's Liaoning or Jilin province. Once you've explained your desire to pledge your allegiance to Dear Leader Kim Jong Il then I'm sure the North Korean authourities will have no problem employing you as an English teacher and perhaps even procuring a Japanese wife on your behalf.
Go for it!

I have to disappoint everyone: there is absolutely nothing "mysterious", "funny" or what-not with N.K.
It is certainly a challenge to get the entry permit - but not extremely difficult if you know how to pull the ropes. A good report here: http://www.enlight.ru/camera/dprk/index_e.html

BTW - there is a way to get pretty close to people from NK, live with them for 8 or so days under the same roof and under certain conditions (too big crowd) an Amarican can be forced to live with, say, a NK villager in the same room for about 8 days. All this without even applying for a NK visa or entering NK at all.
A friend of mine did it recently paying about 200 Euro (=260 USD) for this. Nothing spectacular really and nothing mysterious. Here are the pictures: http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/ne/North_Korea/pix.html The r/t ticket till Ussurijsk (100 Euro): http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/sk/ticket/2006102 The cover of ticket into Korea: http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/ru/ticket%2Btimet The ticket into Korea: http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/ru/ticket%2Btimet The NKorean sleeping car reservation: http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/ru/ticket%2Btimet That's it. The main link is actually leads to Russian-issued ticket collection at http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/ru/ticket%2Btimetable/pix.html If you know how Soviet Union did function or did visit China in 1970-s there is nothing NKorea can surprise you.
