| Waikiki | Which is the Better Hotel: ResortQuest Waikiki Beach v. Waikiki Beach Marriott Posted: Tue February 27, 2007 10:04 PM UTC
We're traveling to Oahu for a little 5 days getaway next month (just hubby and I- no kids)-- hotel choices are Resort Quest Waikiki Beach, Waikiki Beach Marriott (perhaps Hyatt Regency Waikiki, Sheraton Moana Surfrider).
ALSO-- anyone hear anything positive about the New Otani? It sounds like the New Otani is on a great stretch of beach (Sans Souci). Overall, we'd prefer to be toward the east (Diamond Head area)-- away from the hustle/bustle (been there and done that 20 years ago). Will spend time on beach, in water, hike Diamond Head, visit USS AZ. Our trip is in conjunction with a 2 hour meeting hubby has one afternoon. Not bad to spend 5 days in a WARM locale for a 2 hour work function! We like comfy acommodations, but don't necessarily require "posh!" Thanks for any input~ |

If you prefer the Sans Souci area, across the street from Kapiolani Park is where the New Otani, 3 star hotel, sits on the white sand beach. For a more modern hotel in the same area is the W Hotel, a 4 star hotel, Sunsets are straight on from this hotel, and Diamond Head is just around the corner. The action on Kalakaua Ave in Waikiki is far enough away not to bother you but easy enough to get to the shops, restaurants, and hotels where everyone gathers. The two hotels you mention are not on the beach, but are in Waikiki's main shopping area. The Sheraton Moana Surfrider is very noisy on the street side but the banyon tree bar is worth the visit.

I've stayed at the WB Marriott a couple of times and was satisfied. Had a great ocean front room with beautiful view of ocean and beach across the street. They had a special internet rate at that time.

Have stayed at both Marriott and Sheraton. Had a better experience at the Sheraton. Both stays were for at least 10 days and both rooms were alike but
enjoyed the pool area and service at Sheraton more = beach access was better = bar area better. Location is okay for both noise is an issue at a lot of the hotels in Waikiki - there is a lot of traffic there most of the time. Diamond view was good from beach at Sheraton as well. Also the hike at Diamond head was real fun. Once at the top we watched the whales playing below. They should still be around in limited number while you are there. Hope you get to see them. The Hilton Hawaiian Village is nice as well.
