If you are headed for Sedona, drive a bit further and stay in Jerome, http://www.jeromearizona.org/, if you want off the beaten path. Sedona was once a favorite destination of mine until it became over run with outlet stores and tony rich bloods. Jerome is our eclectic Northern town, much as Bisbee fills that bill in the Southern part of the state.
If you go to Jerome, you should see about staying in the Connor Hotel, a great piece of Jerome's history. Check out the English Kithen, the oldest, continually operated restaurant in Arizona. There is a great 1950's style soda shop in Williams, http://www.route66place.com/. If you are in Williams, I would hope that you would have the time to take the Grand Canyon Railway, http://www.thetrain.com/, into the Canyon. It is the best way to see the Canyon and avoid the traffic issues. If you are traveling between Flagstaff and HOlbrook on I-40, make a stop in at Walnut Canyon. You will enjoy the hike, the scenery and the opportunity to walk among the dwellings on its sky island, http://www.nps.gov/waca/. Tuzigoot Ruins and Montezuma's Castle are also good hikes with a glimpse back in time, http://www.nps.gov/tuzi/ & http://www.nps.gov/moca/. What tiem of year are you headed this way? That would tell me what festivals will be going on during your time here. Catch Y'all On Down The Trail, Bit Devine

You will definitely enjoy your stay in Jerome. Whilst in Sedona, keep your eye out for Javelinas on PArade, JavelinasonParade.com., life size collared pecary (please don't call them pigs, it hurts their feelings! LOL) statues which have been painted and tricked out by local artists.
I will keep a look out for any events happening in the area. You are coming right at the start of usmmer season, when there aren't as many tourists and things start to slow down. Very good news for you, if you like avoiding crowds Bit

If you're still looking while you're in Sedona, check out Oak Creek Brewery on Yavapai Drive, The Asylum in Jerome, Heartline Cafe, Hideaway, Montezuma's castle and pick up a copy of the Sedona Excentric.
