China Chinese Tourist visa questions

If I enter China through Beijing and then enter Hong Kong overland, will I need a multiple entry visa to enter Mainland China again?

Another question: I will be exiting China on to Vietnam overland, hence, I won't have a return ticket to show if the customs official in Beijing asks for it. Will this be a problem?

Yes, you need a multiple entry visa, since going to hk is consider an exit. I don't know what your plan is , maybe you can consider flying into hk first. When I entered China in my last trip, I never had a return ticket, and nobody ever asked me about it. So I don't think it's a problem. I think many countries have a similar rule, but it's not enforced.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately, I think it would be cheaper for me to fly into Beijing instead of Hong Kong since I already got a good deal on airfare (though haven't purchased yet). I will see if it would be better ahd cheaper to get a double-entry visa since the price difference is only CAD$25 compared to a single-entry visa.

They may ask why you want a double entry visa at Calgary's consulate, just tell them you will be going over to HK.
Do not mention about your Vietnam exit unless asked, it is another one of those volunteering too much info will get you into more red tapes.
