| Karachi | Travel to Karachi Posted: Sat February 24, 2007 12:54 PM UTC
Hi everybody. I am a middle aged lonely retired man residing in Tehran. I like to travel to Karachi & stay there for 1-3 months & then go to Mumbai for the same purpose. I shall go to Karachi by bus/train from Iran. My aim is to tour, enjoy the life & to rest but as cheaper as possible. My budget is maximum about $ 400 per month for all the expenses including transport. I have not fixed a time for the travel yet.
I prefer to stay in a clean & safe lodge or in a room of a house rather than an expensive hotel. I like sea-side. I physically look like people of Indian subcontinent & can speak urdu-hindi mixed language spoken in Mumbai. Please give me some tips on following Qs. 1) Can I find cheap & safe accommodation near the sea? What is its name/address? How much per a day? 2) Are there Iranian restaurants in Karachi like in Mumbai? Can u give a name/address? 3) Is there any passenger ship travelling between Karachi & India? 4)There is a railway link between Khokhrapar in Sindh(Pakistan) & Munabao in Rajasthan(India). Can I go to India by that way? sohrab_rahim at yahoo dot com. |

1]Please contact some estate broker for accomodation in Clifton/Defence Housing.
2]Sure there are some Iranian Res. in Saddar,Bunder Road area , although declining in numbers. 3] There's no passenger ferry between Karachi/India anymore yet but planning. 4] The "Thar Express" train to Munabao India leaves Karachi every Friday night at 11 pm. Enjoy Pakistan once again.

Dear Mr Aghani, wow! Yes sir, thank u very much for your excellent reply, U r a kind & wise gentleman.
I have never gone to Pakistan yet, but I had been in India long ago. 1) What is Clifton/Defence Housing? Can't I directly contact it without contacting any estate broker? Approx how much they charge per day? 2)Can a foreigner (Iranian) enter India by the "Thar Express"? Or I can only go from Lahore-Amritsar way. 3)Shall I exchange my money in government banks or in free market? Thanks (Lohrasb)

1]the huge Clifton and Defence Housing areas face the sea but not far from city center. instead of falling in the hands of money suckers for accomodation its advisable to read advertisement section of Sunday edition of daily DAWN at http://dawn.com online. Go for property sale/purchase/hire.find what you are looking for and communicate by email.Negotiate till satisfied.
2]money ( dollars prefered) can be exchanged anywhere.a] at airport [ you can get less] b] best place is authorised and licenced money changers in Boulton Market to get a good deal. Its not only legal but also very honest. Don't go for under hand dealing, you maybe cheated. 3]I do not see any problem of you going to India by 'Thar Express'. Good luck.
