Yellowstone National Park yellowstone-teton tour
Posted: Sat February 24, 2007 09:44 AM UTC
I`m planning a tour of Teton & Yellowstone parks during june initialy flying into salt lake city and hiring a car. Ive booked a 2 night stay at Jackson then intend to drive upto Gardiner driving through the parks on route for another 2 night stay, already booked.I have the car for nine days in total, had thought about driving back through yellowstone exiting at east entrance, and using the remainder of th car hire to see Arches national park staying at perhaps Vernal and Moab, before returning to Salt Lake City.Am I being a bit optimistic in thinking I can put this together.Coming from across the big pond I`m not too sure of what distances are involved and the time scale to be considered.Any advice about best sights to see would be greatly appreciated.

It is very easy to get directions, mileage, and driving times from one city to another by going to the website: www.mapquest.com
Remember that the mileage given will by in miles not km. As for best sights to see, look at the same website for the towns you will pass on your drive. If you enter the town's name on your browser, you can see attractions, nearby sights, restaurants, etc. I am staying in West Yellowstone for the first days of June. Close to Park west entrancd and Old Faithful. Have Fun.

Trying to get to Moab via the east entrance of Yellowstone and Vernal....now that is a novel idea. I'm not sure how it would work really though I suppose it is possible, but it would definitely be the scenic (and slow meandering) way. Did you have any ideas on how you would get to Vernal from the east entrance? Cause I really don't. Vernal to Moab is possible via Indian Canyon (hwy 191).

If you want to spend some time in Moab then exit the same way you came in through Jackson. About 4-5 hours to SLC depending on the road you take and then another 4 hours to Moab. And since you are short on time I would drive that whole way in one day so that you actually had time to see something in Moab/Arches/Canyonlands area.

(Yes I am kind of giving you contradictory advice, based on your expression of desire to see Moab. This being a place I thoroughly enjoy I thought helpful advice to get there appropriate. The call really is up to you. I myself am taking a trip through France this year that any self respecting France-loving person would tell me is insane...so I am not asking for their opinion because I already know it is insane. But there is so much to see and so much I already am leaving out that I am finding a way to make it work for me. Just make your trip what you want and make it work for you. The only way to really do that is a lot of research to see just what is involved and if you really want to do it. And then don't listen to those of us who say that doing Yellowstone/ Grand Teton and Arches in a nine day span is too much, what do we know about you?)
