| The Grampians | Camping in the Grampians Posted: Fri February 23, 2007 10:55 PM UTC
Hi All,
I'm going to drive with my gf from Adelaide to Melbourne this Easter (well just before to avoid school holidays). We're planning on stopping in the Grampians for two nights and wanted to find a nice camping area. We are hiring an Apollo campervan for 2 people so we don't need a lot of room. Does anyone have any good suggestions? We would love to find a site that has plenty of walking trails and swimming spots.. Thanks for your help! Pete |

Hi Pete,
Hall's Gap would be your best bet for central and convenience, most sightseeing places can be easily and quickly reached from here. Could be a tad expensive but so are all well sited tourist places. Never stayed there myself because many years ago I lived nearby, in Ararat. Stawell, Great Western and Ararat are nearby second options. Don't forget the woolly jumpers- it can get very chilly at night in this part of Victoria. Hope this helps :-) John.

It's probably going to be packed, Halls Gap, as the Stawell Easter Gift will be on (famous annual running race) - so your best bet could be one of the National Park campsites with your van - there's one about 3 kms from Halls Gap (it's one of the closer ones, with basic toilets, but I haven't been there to see if it's still ok after the huge bushfires last year).
You can ask at the National Park centre next to the Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural centre - the campsites (basic cheap fee) are marked on the map. Kate
