| Alghero | Trains from Olbia to Alghero Posted: Thu February 22, 2007 05:03 PM UTC
Hello friends,
There is a train that I'd need to take in order to get from Olbia to Alghero (I'm flying to and from Olbia in August, landing in the afteroon). I need to ride a train because the buses between the two cities seems quite rare. Anyway, the last train between the cities leaves Olbia at 16.49 and has 2 connections before reaching Alghero by 20.24. There are 2 connections in between, the first one goes through Ozieri - Chilivani and there seems to be a train change (when the number of a train changes, that necessarily means a physical train change, does it?) The thing is, the connection has 7 minutes margin before moving on from Ozieri to Sassari. I wanted to ask whether you think that may mean missing the connection in case the first train is a bit late. I thought it's worth asking, because maybe these connections wait for people in the previous train to arrive before the second train starts moving. What do you think? Thanks a lot to all Sardinian friends! Hakan |

Well Sassari station is not a huge place you will get lost in so you should be alright - but I do not think it is something that anyone vould unconditionally guarantee.
When I travel in that sitution I tend to have a disaster recovery plan up my sleeve - here, the fact that Sassari and Alghero are no more than 25 miles/ 40Km apart, so a taxi, if it came to it on your last leg, would cost - I don't know 60 Euros? Not cheap but recoverable against other expenses. Perhaps you could e-mail for a quote algherotaxi@tiscali.it I have pages on Alghero and Sassari with taxi numbers and train information (on the last train Sassari to Alghero)please rate my tips if you drop by!

Hello Paul,
Thanks a lot! I will make sure to read your tips. I wanted to clarify, I'm concerned about the connection at Ozieri-Chilivani, which has a 7-minute margin. Then there is a change in the number of the train on the Trenitalia website. Does this necessarily mean I have to physically change trains? (Frankly, I don't know the numbering system in Italy). Also, if Ozier is a very small town (which I'm not sure about), then maybe the connection is actually made after the arrival of the train from Olbia, in which case I can still catch the segment from Ozieri to Sassari even if the first train is a bit late. Do you have any experience traveling through Ozieri like this? Thanks a lot! Hakan France

Hi Hakan
Afraid I can't help with the Ozieri-Chilivani connection. Was a bit unclear, maybe you should try to re-post in a forum titled Ozieri-Chilivani? Good luck and enjoy Sardegna !
