I haven't actually stayed in the Aberdeen one, but I have stayed in them elsewhere.
They are basic in that you get a room with bath/shower, TV, kettle and that is it. Breakfast is not included in the price.
If you want somewhere clean to stay with these basic facilities, but aren't bothered about decor, bars and other public facilities, laundry service or whatever, they are usually fine.

Travelodge is an international/national chain, mostly aimed at business travellers. They are not particularly pretty buildings, breakfast is extra (and, imo, overpriced for what it is) and they usually lack 'extras' but the accommodation is usually clean and adequate. I have stayed at them, although not in Aberdeen, but as they are a chain standards are likely to be pretty much the same in all of them. However, the siting of many of them means they can be noisy (this seems to apply to the Aberdeen one, from the online reviews, but is often the case with city centre hotels in general). I always take ear-plugs, just in case!

i can only pass on the bad vibes ive
heard of recently, where these places allegedly overbook,
and relocate you to a place miles away.
i would still consider travel lodge, but would not pre book.
if there is a room available when you arrive ok,
but have some other phone numbers for back up

I have regularly stayed in the Aberdeen Central Travelodge.
When I'm staying there I'm only looking for a place to sleep and shower and it's in a great location for a night out in the town.
Rooms are small, but clean.
Customer Service isn't of a high standard though.
I always pre-book rooms and have never been turned away due to 'over-booking' However I would recommend arriving in the afternoon or early evening if possible, y'know. Just in case.

Rooms tend to be less expensive in Aberdeen on a Friday or Saturday night as there are less business and offshore customers (Aberdeen's main buisness)
As an alternative - still in the middle of town and just as standard as the travelodge is the Premier Travel Inn

Both are situated on a main road - however the Travelodge suffers much more from the late night drinking crowd noise.

hi this posting was from 1 year ago, there were reports on tv,
naming companies and hotels, that were guilty of misconduct.
the hotel you mentioned was not one of these, and i think it was a bit of scare mongering,by some one that had a bad experience and people jumped on the band wagon.
i mentioned this at the time as a precaution for my fellow travellers to be aware of possible problems.
i too have stayed at travel lodges(but not aberdeen) on my travels and had no problems.true they are not 5 star, but you are paying for a clean, safe bed for the night at a reasonable price.
have fun enjoy scotland,
bry
