In March I shall be cruising into Funchal for the 3rd.time. Each time my husband and I have disembarked and just walked along the front and up a few side streets.This time we would like to see a bit more perhaps even where the cable car is. Any help would be appreciated.

The cable car is the far end of the sea front from where the cruise ships dock

Have you tried a "levada" walk? These were old waterway "canals" which you can walk along, especially in the interior hills, often with stunning views. The island also has marvelous gardens.
