could you guys help me decide whether we'll go to hat yai or not. i want to learn more about the must-see places in hat yai. we would like to see nice sceneries, and relics and anything that would reflect thailand customs. thanks a lot...

Hi its basically full of brothels aimed at Malaysian men looking for cheap sex. Apart from that its not worth visiting IMHO.

Also tourists have been killed by bombs thrown from motorcycles driven by Muslim seperatists while they ate on road side restaurants. Malaysia has issued travel warnings

hatyai is not all brothels as painted by richard... and neither is there any unrest with shootings from passing motor cyclists... that will be further south east in yala, narathiwat and pattani provinces... but of course, we do not know whether unrest will come to this commercial and tourist city of hatyai...

there is much to see and experience in hatyai... there are temples, wet markets, nice beach and lake in nearby songkhla... with waterfalls and natural parks within close proximity to the city... check my page on hatyai and enjoy your trip...

Hat Yai HAS SEEN TOURIST DEATHS. seems it does not make it to the western press then! Having been in this region for a while you get to know what is safe and what is not

Why visit Hat Yai?

I agreed with chiabh. Hatyai isnt just merely contained brothels and nothing else.

we were there during the recent chinese new year season. we had also came to know there were chaos during time when we hit back to our hometown. we hadnt see anything when we were there frankly. ok, let's say we are counting our luck.

we made our way to see the buddha - the standing buddha up on the hill which was truly a breath-taking sight! we even get to hit to a location whereby we found out ashes are placed in statues of Ksitigarbha by chance!

there is also a waterfall location where one can hit to have a good massage. there is also a location where one can have games of paintballs. countless......it is there awaiting for people to explore

here, we arent saying that hatyai is truly a safe place to go. if one think you arent comfortable with it, please dont go ahead with your travelling plans
