Taba A few questions - anyone know the answers?
Posted: Mon February 19, 2007 08:28 PM UTC
Taking my 2 children to Taba Heights (TH) in a few weeks for 14 nights, and starting to realise we are a captive audience with no alternatives for the tourist - e.g. expensive
Can anyone help with the following -

1) Hear there are buses (East Delta) running past the entrance to TH, going to Taba and Nuweiba, any idea on times?

2) Can anyone use the Taba to Aqaba ferry, or has it got to be arranged via a travel agent?

3)How hard is the Mt Sinai climb - looks fairly daunting at over 7400ft?

4)Which company is it best to arrange any trips with e.g. Mt Sinai, Petra Etc

5) Any other experiences tips would be most welcome

Taba Heights is located some 20 km or so south of Taba. Taba is a tiny border village with nothing interesting to see unless you are planning to go over to Eilat or feel lucky at the casino in the Taba Hilton ( assuming you find the Taba Heights casino uninteresting.

You could visit the ruined Salah el Deen Castle on Pharaohs Island which is located some 15 km north of Taba Heights. But there are trips by boat from the Marina at Taba Heights which may prove more interesting though more expensive.
I am sure the kids would love that.

The bus from Nuweiba to Taba should pass the Taba Heights entrance at around 9.45, 11.45 and 15.45 hrs. On the way back to Nuweiba should be around 12.30, 15.30 and early morning. But these times are so approximate that I would not recommend trying them out.

Difficult to say who is the best or the cheapest to do the various excursions. In Nuweiba I have my own contacts but Taba Heights is a different kettle of fish and you are best to contact the various tour companies and the transportation companies in your hotel or neighboruing hotels.

As far as I know the small ferry from Taba Heights is only bookable through travel companies.

Depending on the age of your kids the climb up Moses moutain might not be suitable. It is pretty strenous so be prepared but of course highly rewarding. The monastery is a must so do at least try and visit that.
