Kruger National Park Travel Forum

My wife and I are going to Kruger via Joburg. What's the best way to do that? I know we could fly - any idea what the best value airlines are? Is the route driveable? Are there bus companies that travel that route or must we rent a car? We don't plan to self-drive in Kruger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My husband and i are also going to Kruger via Johannesburg this March. We have arranged for our dafari lodge to pick us up from the airport for the 5 and a half hour drive to Kruger. There are also transfer companies however we realised that they do not start until 10:30 am which is not very helpful when your flight gets in at 6:30am unless you enjoy hanging around at airports ;)
You can get a flight to Nelspruit as well but i can imagine it would be quite nice to look out for animals on the drive up to Kruger. Where are you staying at Kruger?

City Bug offers a daily bus service between OR Tambo Int'l Airport and Nelspruit. You could then arrange with the lodge to pick you up in Nelspruit.

Thanks for all the help. Cybernation, thanks for the website - we'll check it out. Roadtraveller, do you know of any good companies we can look into? Melly, we haven't yet decided where to stay, but Bogani and Grand Kruger Lodge are top contenders for now. Where did you decide to stay?

We decided to stay at Bushwise safari lodge. We fly out in 4 weeks and can't wait! It was a lot cheaper than some of the lodges but still included all meals, safaris etc.

journey from india is tiring one we did SA on our own took halt at pretoria took avis car on rent and went to kruger, drive is comfortable and scenic u will need ur transport in kruger been there in october 2006 avoid night driving remember u r dependant on maps.
