| Ruinas Uxmal | Cancun to Uxmal Posted: Sun February 18, 2007 06:43 PM UTC
How far is it from Cancun (Airport) to Uxmal? We are thinking about renting a car and staying in Valladolid for 3 days then driving to Uxmal from there and staying our last 3 nights then driving back to catch a flight out of Cancun on our last day. Not sure how far of a drive it is though? Would appreciate anyone's thoughts...Thanks!

Since you have no profile at all, this may or may not be of help.
#1 you have to be 25 to rent a car in mexico. #2 driving in Mexico can be scary. They follow different rules than in the US. Don't know where you're from. Uxmal is quite a long way from Cancun. 200+ miles maybe. #3 Do you speak any Spanish? Here is a link to a site that may be of help. http://www.travelyucatan.com If you go ahead, take photos of your rental to avoid being accused of damaging the vehicle. Also check the gas pump before fueling up to make sure it is "zeroed out".

Read my transportation tip: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/11a532
Uxmal is a long way from Cancun. Approx 4 hours from Cancun to Merida. A little less than 2 hours from Merida to Uxmal.

I would not drive in Mexico at night but during the day it is not too bad, especially in this area. I suggest you take the bus from Cancún to Mérida and rent a car there, so you cannot only visit Uxmal (absolutely fantastic!) but also some other superb sites with Maya ruins (Sayil, Kabah etc.), original Maya villages where tourists do not show up often etc. I found this absolutely amazing.
