Guadalupe Mountains National Park How's Hiking Guadalupe Peak in February?
Posted: Sat February 17, 2007 08:00 AM UTC
I have some time right now, in February 2007, and am headed to Guadalupe Mt. Nat'l Park. I figure I'll hike to Guadalupe Peak. I'm just wondering how the weather will be there on February 24th, 2007. I've never been there. I'll be tent-camping, but I'll adequate heat in my tent using a propane heater. I just don't want the wind to blow me away, or for it to snow and inch or more, or be totally turned off by bitter cold. Thanks. Please email me at: ruskcountyhunter at hotmail dot com. I hiked the peak in mid-March a few years ago and it was crazy windy. Something like 70 mph gusts at the top. It depends on the weather though. I think there was a storm coming in that day as the clouds were streaked.
It will definitely be cold. It's almost 9000', so those 40's at the base become 20's and sometimes teens.
Keep in mind though that you can easily do the Peak and back in one day. It's something like 6 miles one-way. You can then camp at the base in Pine Spring.
