Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Andorra establishing a Euro account prior to 2 month visit to Andorra
Posted: Fri February 16, 2007 11:24 PM UTC
I am a retired American who would like to open a small savings and current account in an Andorran bank for a planned vacation there next winter to investigate the skiing and to consider possible future residency there or in Southern France, but I have been having difficulties finding out if I can open such a personal bank account in Euros in Andorra prior to my visit. I understand that I would need to make such a deposit in conjunction with a residency application, but can one establish an account by transfering funds from a personal U.S. account prior to my initial travel visit there? If so, what are the requirements?

Andorra RE: establishing a Euro account prior to 2 month visit to Andorra

Why not just make your 2-month visit using your already-established USA account. You can use your debit and credit cards easily. See how you feel about living there; perhaps choose a place and then ask at the local bank how to establish an account. For instance in France you can establish an account at the local Post Office if you prefer that to the bank.

It seems a bit premature to establish a bank account when you haven't decided whether or not nor where you may live.

If you are married and decide to move there, check inheritance laws very carefully. They are vastly different from the US. You will also have to request a residence visa if you plan to spend more than 90 consecutive days there. Lots of rules.

You may start by checking http://www.eurovisa.info/SchengenCountries.htm
