Tweed Head is on the border of Queensland and New South Wales. A lot of people live there and work in Qld or vise versa.
If you like really hot, hot, hot weather all year round you should be looking further north across Aussie land. Further up the hotter it gets and stays that way most of the year.

Tweed Heads is at the bottom end of the Gold Coast and the weather is terrific, better than Brisbane (I am biased though) Brisbane gets very hot in the summer and a bit cooler in the winter. Humidity is the problum if you go north Queensland. Now to talk about what we call winter here at the Tweed, some people never get out of their shorts and T-shirt but I have lived here 25 years now and get into jeans and a fleecy top (swearshirt) in "mid winter" It is a bit of a joke to call it winter as it is very mild and many people swim in the ocean all year around here. Check out Google Earth for good views and maps of the area. I think it is a great place to bring up young children (I live at Kingscliff on the Tweed Coast).

Hiya. I lived in Hastings Point just south of Tweed Heads and the Queensland border for 7 years. (Hi Alice from Kingscliff)
The weather is the same as Brissy so no problems there. But you have more of a choice to live near the beach than in Brissy suburbs. However, the down side is it's harder to find work on the Gold Coast than in Brisbane itself. Anyway, I think that whatever....you have chosen well! All the best to you and please stick around vt and let us know how you went. Cheers, Ann :o)

Tweed Heads is a half hour drive from Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, the holiday strip runs right down to Tweed Heads, the weather is the same as the Gold Coast, Coolangatta is loose by. It is very nice at Tweed Heads and the Tweed River valley is very nice.
Good Luck, Mike

This reply may be a little late but here it is anyway.
As a nurse and a builder you will have no problem getting work. There are two public hospitals, three private hospitals and a dozen or more nursing/retirement homes for you to choose from. And there are 1500 people a week moving to southeast QLD each week so there is a huge building boom. There is a short supply of qualified tradesmen in Aussie at the moment so he will do ok. Suburb wise I would suggest Arundel, Parkwood, Ashmore or Carrara. Lots of houses with plenty of parks. Ashmore and Carrara have access to the Nerang River. None are far from the beach. Worst for schools is Carrara but none are far. The Gold Coast City Council has a good website with data on all suburbs. It is worth checking it out. You can also look at Education Queensland website for profiles on schools. Oh and since you like it hot, this week, the first week of autumn, it was 38 degrees last Sunday. And about 80% humidity.
