State of Assam Travel Forum

I wish to travel to beautiful Assam in April/May, from Toronto Canada. Could anyone please tell me the favoured route to use i.e. Delhi or Calcutta? I like meeting people, have heard assamese are very friendly. I love beautiful scenery. Have read they have lots of it. I'd like to know some budget hotels in Guwahati so I can visit the nearby temples.

assam no doubt is a beautiful place but as a foreigner you need special permission to access north east . i would recommend you to go to incredible india website or just post few questions on lonelyplanet you would get tons of help . and lp book is also very helpful . just google things up for assam , it's a bit difficult but i am sure you would find something or rather what i recommend is head to calcutta or darjelling first and from there head to assam as it is closer and people there know and would help you more with the your travel.enjoy.

special permit is not required for assam or meghalaya in the north east ...but certaily for states like mizora and nagaland ...you need to obtain special permits
