| Rota | Rota Navy Base May 2007 Posted: Fri February 16, 2007 03:03 PM UTC
Hello! I will be visiting my sister at the Rota Navy Base in May. I've read the other post that we can take the catamaran out to Cadiz, but are there ways for day trips to somewhere like Seville? Or is that too far for a day trip? Where else could we go from the Navy Base as a day trip? Thanks for any help in advance.

Depends if you have a car I suppose. But if not then you can bus into Jerez fairly easily and El Puerto de Santa Maria even easier. Both places have a lot to keep you occupied especially Jerez.
from Jerez you can use the train or a bus to get up to Seville. Also consider going to Sanlucar for the day as it is an interesting place with history. It's at the mouth of the great river Guadalquivir - the same river that flow past Seville and Cordoba. You can do a 4 hours boat trip at Sanlucar if you want.

Best bet is to go to the Rota Naval Base Travel/Recreation Center. They will have all the information you need. They had many group day trips in the short time I was there (~3 weeks). Such as Seville, Gibraltar, Flamingo dance dinner, Rhonda, Sherry/ Port Wine tour... Time and money only limited me. They will also help you plan your own day trips. There is very little traffic in the surrounding area, so driving would not be difficult. It is a short cab ride to the Cadiz ferry and worth doing, but a couple hours and a meal there is all the time you will need. The best part of being in Rota is Rota itself. Just walking the streets, lying on the beach (find the outside bar stand on the beach itself and order a pitcher of Sangria) and trying the local food. Hope this helps.
