| Karlsruhe | Stag Do in Karlsruhe Posted: Thu February 15, 2007 11:14 PM UTC
I am organising a stag do weekend for about 10-15guys from the UK for mid-April this year.
Can you please advise if Karlsruhe is a suitable place to visit for a weekend? What activities are there to do during the day? Any good nightclubs? Comedy clubs? All replies will be gratefully received! Thanks, Yem |

Karlsruhe? Why in the world Karlsruhe? The city was destroyed during WWII and quickly rebuild after, and it shows. Sure you'll find some nice spots, bars and pubs, and maybe expectations aren't too high during a stag do, but if I were you, I would take the train to Freiburg, Baden-Baden or Stuttgart.

Turtleshell is a bit harsh to Karlsruhe. There have been cities more heavily destroyed than Karlsruhe. Also due the fact that Karlsruhe is a very young city (founded in 1715), thus there was no compact medieval city centre.
Karlsruhe is not really a hot spot on the tourist map. On this point the mentioned Baden-Baden, Freiburg or Stuttgart have more to offer. If they are better for a stag do is something else. That does generally collidate a bit with the lifestyle of the people in South-West Germany. Karlsruhe Tourism http://www1.karlsruhe.de/Tourismus/index.php?cmspa Karlsruhe is generally a nice place to live, work and study at. Nightlife is also OK for the size of the city. The ZKM (Center for Art and Media) is an interesting museum http://on1.zkm.de/zkm/e/ some night clubs http://www.rheingold-karlsruhe.de http://www.cheriebar.de > Comedy clubs? Not sure what exactly you mean with this. As long as language is involved everything will be in German of course. Baden-Baden what make a nice trip from Karlsruhe. You could visit the casion (dress code for games!) or one of the spas. http://www.baden-baden.de/en/index.html http://www.casino-baden-baden.de/ http://www.caracalla.de/ It's a quite posh tourist destination. A KVV mini group 24-hour ticket (Regiokarte plus) you can use from Karlsruhe to Baden-Baden is EUR 12,00. Valid for up to 5 persons. Speyer is also a short trip from Karlsruhe. Historically an important place for Germany. http://www.speyer.de/de/tourist/sehenswert?switch_language=en Two things which will interest your guys most: a) Technik Museum http://www.technik-museum.de/uk/speyer/ b) Speyer claims to have the highest pub per inhabitants ratio in Germany A KVV mini group 24-hour ticket (RegiokarteX plus) you can use from Karlsruhe to Baden-Baden is EUR 18,00. Valid for up to 5 persons.
