What is the coverage like in Siem Reap? Any problems with mobiles and do I need to buy a sim card there or will the one I buy in Vietnam be o.k?

Different country means different sim.
Cambodia has recently made it difficult for non-residents to buy a Cambodian sim card. Can't imagine why. Virtually every country in the world allows tourists to purchase a sim card on presentation of a passport

Last reply seems to be correct. Foreigners can't buy Sim cards. My local friend will buy one for me but even she has to show her ID Card which is recorded. She tells me that they are told that the fear of their Government is that Mobile Phones can be used to remotely set off explosive devices therefore they want all users on file! I never bother as I can leave the world behind when I visit Cambodia however I find that I can send her SMS messages succesfully which in my case have to be routed via UK.

A friend's Australian SIM card wouldn't work (not sure which provider), but my from Singapore wwa fantastic. Mobile coverage was good too, I made a call home while standing in one of the temple ruins.
