| Ko Tao | July in Tao (good place for longer stay)? Posted: Wed February 14, 2007 08:57 AM UTC
Sawadee!
I have read that Koh samui weather should be pretty good in July. Is the weather type same on Koh Tao or is there different/more wet climate? How about staying in Koh Tao for longer time? is there any tailor shops to get tailor made suit + shirts? How about restaurants? only those in the hotels? (nothing bad about hotel's restaurants, but are they very expencive?) And are the prices very high on Koh Tao since it is pretty small island...? |

Hi Janalana..again!!!
Im afraid to disappoint...although the weather will be stupendous on both islands, Koh Tao is only 21sq km and the majority of it is inaccessible by foot anyway, got to take a taxi boat round to the east side of the island or hire a 4x4 jeep. Koh Tao is a fantastic place to stay long as you would get to know everyone and you get a sense of family feel BUT there are no tailors there whatsoever! People dont go there to have things made, for that youve got BKK..people come here to snorkel, swim and dive. There are lots of restaurants on Koh Tao, mainly all Thai food and lots of them are shack like places. There are quite a few foreign cuisine restaurants as well but you pay more for those of course. Koh Tao prices are a little bit steeper than the other two islands and the mainland. The 7 Eleven items for example are between 2-5 Baht more expensive for crisps, drinks things like that, but more for alcohol. There is a warehouse however just up the road form he main town which sells alcohol at the normal price of other places. Im going back to Koh Tao in March for 10 days because it is such a fantasic place! Enjoy!

Thank you for helping!
Tao sounds lovely :) Too bad we are going to stay only 2 days in BKK, so no time for good tailoring there... :( Any ideas about the ocean/water in July? I did read there is low tide (or something like that) in July. So the water level is much lower than in other months... But does this mean that the beaches aren't so pretty and the water isn't so blue+crystal clear in July?

Having never been in July I cant really tell you. It was low tide when we went in December and it made no difference to the crystal clear water..very beautiful. On days when there was a thunderstorm the water came right up to the walls of the beach front restaurants so the beach disappeared, but I dont think that will happen in July as it wont rain then.
P.S. If BKK is anything like Beijing, you can get clothes made in two days no problem!

We stayed in some bungalows called Sairee Cottage. Really nice ranging from 300B to 700B i believe. Not up marklet or anything and certainly not a hotel. They do have resorts on Koh Tao though so its worth exploring...I will in due course put some up on my pages...but google Koh Tao and you will get a plethora of websites to help you out.
