Banff Driving from Whistler to Banff in June
Posted: Mon February 12, 2007 03:59 PM UTC
How long will it take to drive from Whistler to Banff, we are travelling there in June. Our travel rep told us that is was about 6/7 hours but from reading other mails it seems to be more like 10/12 hrs.
Would just like to clarify what the driving time is?

Yes, it is closer to 12 hours than 6. Depending on traffic you should be able to do it in 9 - 11 hours if you want to get there in a hurry. I would recommend taking 2 days and staying over night somewhere and really enjoying all the magnificent natural beauty along the way. If you go back to Vancouver from Whistler it will add another 2+ hours to the above times. The quickest way is to head North from Whistler through Pemberton, Lillooet, Cache Creek and Kamloops.

10/12 hours depending on traffic, which shouldn't be bad unless you get caught in Vancouver traffic. We've made the trip from Chilliwack (1 hour from Vancouver on Banff side) and found staying in Revelstoke worked nicely. There is a nice International Hostel there.

It took us 11 hours from Banff; also the route in the above posting is the quickest -- however, there's a few one-way bridges just to warn you. If you want, you can overnight in Salmon Arm. Salmon Arm to Whistler via the above route took us about 5 1/2 hours.
