RE: RE: Camping Ucluelet/Tofino area Bella Pacifica? Posted: Wed February 21, 2007 08:06 PM UTC
There is one campground run by the provence, I think called Greenpoint campgound (it's been a while since I was there, but I have family in the area). It is a provincal campgound so expect the usual basic things - nothing fancy but all you need. It is outside of tofino. It is VERY busy, always full so you will need to book in advance, alhtough june will be less busy...just make sure it is open in early june. Don't stay in uncluelet, everything you will want to see will be in tofino. If you get the chance, I recommend going to hotsprings cove - a seaplane or boat ride away, but a great choice if the weather is cool beacause you can soak in the wilderness in a lovely natural hotspring. (I went when I was 12 and thought it was great). If the weather is stormy and you can't go surfing or whale watching, go bear watching (if offered) - you go up into the sheltered inlets, it's quite pretty, you will probably see bears, and also if you are lucky a few whales.
As for camping, I always stick with the provincial park campgrounds. They are basic, but usually in lovely spots with all you need. And are generally fairly cheap. (sproat lake, little qualicum falls). I am not a huge fan of goldstream (near victoria), as it is quite shady and cold and near the highway although pretty.
I would think that in June (especially weekdays) you could simply travel with a map showing all the provincial campgrounds and then just show up since they shouldn't be full. There is usually a campsite every hour or two on the road.
