Assisi Travel from Florence to Assisi

I will be staying around Florence for a few day in early June. Can anyone tell me is it possible to travel to Assisi for a day, preferably by train. Please advise!

Thank you in advance for any helpful advice/directions/suggestions!

About 2.5 hrs on the train each way. Type in Firenze and Assisi and your dates here:

http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

note the "Assisi" train station is actually in S.M. Degli Angeli, about 3 km down the hill from Assisi. Regular buses link the station to Assisi.

When you look at the website that Jon provide (which you SHOULD do), you will see that there are relatively few direct trains, so you need to get those times fixed in your mind. On the other hand, some of the connections are even faster than the direct trains, because one of the segments is on a much faster long distance train. You just have to look at the schedules and see whether a direct train or a train at a certain time is what you want.

Note that faster trains will cost more, so keep that in mind if it is important.

Note that in June, it will be light in that part of Italy by 5 a.m., so a very early start may be quite practical...

I will also be travelling to Assisi but from Rome rather than Firenze. So there are no direct train lines that arrive to Assisi?

There are - during the week, anyway - about 6 direct trains a day from Rome to Assisi. However, they are mostly after noon.

Note that the funny thing is that these direct trains are not necessarily the fastest trips. Sometimes, a connection through Foligno that uses a very fast train out of Rome and a slower train to Assisi is a faster trip.

Anyway, go to www.trenitalia.com and do the search for the solution. Note the "English" link in the upper right hand corner.

Thank you for the advice, also thanks for letting me know that I can check the train schedule in English. I can get by with the little Italian I know but for accurate schedule times it's nice to know I can double check it in English. :)

The train station is several kilometers from the old city. The following links have the schedule for the bus that goes between the station and the old city.

The "Azienda Perugina della Mobilita" website [www.apmperugia.it] has the schedule for the bus that goes between the Assisi train station and the old city

On http://www.apmperugia.it/canale.asp?id=17

it's the "MAS0C ASSISI - P.ZZA MATTEOTTI-FS-P.ZZA GARIBALDI" link

HTML page
http://217.141.151.2/orari/urbani_minori/html/MAS0C.htm

PDF
http://217.141.151.2/orari/urbani_minori/pdf/MAS0C.pdf

it looks like the bus passes every 30 miunutes.

The top part of the pages have
"LINEA MAS0C AS - P.zza Matteotti - Stazione FS - P.zza Garibaldi", which are the times for going from Assisi's old town to the station.
The bottom part of the pages have "LINEA MAS0C DI - P.zza Garibaldi - Stazione FS - P.zza Matteotti" which is the times for going from the station to the old city.

"STAZ.ASSISI" is the train station
"P.ZA U.ITALIA ASSISI" is the first stop in the old city. It's the large parking lot not far from the basilica
"P.ZA MATTEOTTI ASSISI" is the large piazza on the other side of town.
