How many banks are there?

There are a few banks there, but they are not exactly reputable establishments. Unfortunately travellers' cheques are not accepted in Kinshasa and credit cards are only accepted at some major hotels, which means that you will need to choose the bank that rips you off the least and stick to it. Be careful if you use the country's first ever ATM, it is practically an invite to be robbed I am sorry to say.

BELGOLAISE (Belgian Bank)
and some other 2 or 3 for development projects.

You can use MasterCard, VisaCard or American Express in Kinshasa, fortunately there are now the first ATM's (5) in the capital.
Dont be afraid, nobody will robber you but be sure not going alone.
