Does anyone know how we can get to Hanoi from Luang Prabang by land? How much it costs? And how much time it takes?

I never taken this route;
usuually traveler they taken as below: A:luangprabang-Huaphan province and crossing border at Muang vieng xay (sop hao) opening for lao and vienamese. for foreigner is unlikely.. so, better not crossing here.. B; luangprabang- xiengkouang ( crossing vietnamese border at Nam khan and nam can, the crossing border became an international boder in 2003.. so far seem few lao and vienamese people use this route.. c: luangprabang-vientiane-(10$) Lak sao.( 5 $) . and crossing vietnamese border at Na phao.. this route is very safe...u should choose this way ...

Unless you really have your heart set on going by land, the flight is dirt cheap and saves you tons of time that you'd probably rather use to do something else.

You can do the nam xoi (L)-Na Meo (V)crossing.It's open to foreigners.But no VOA.From Luang Prabang, you take bus to Sam Neua or Viengxai and early next mornign take bus for Nam Xoi, and walk over to Na Meo for entry into Vietnam. From here you take transport(quite tricky as transport is iregular) to either Hanoi or Thanh Noa.
I have done that. But you don't see many foreigners making the crossing here. dana
