| Tampa | South Tampa or Riverview Posted: Thu February 8, 2007 09:50 PM UTC
Hi, I am moving to tampa this weekend, but dont know anything abt tampa. I want to be close to downtown, st. petersburg, and bradenton. So, reading through this forum I narrowed it down to Riverview or closer, and South Tampa. My reasoning is that I need activity, and closer to my wife's work. I need help from you guys.
1. How is Riverview? Anything good to do here. 2. What is the IT job scene in Tampa. I need to find a job yet, but have a few months time as I continuing to work for my current employer remotely. Thanks for your help. |

Define close.
Where will your wife be working? Riverview will is not the easiest commute into downtown Tampa, but I do not speak from experience. Riverview is not an urban area, formerly rural, but probably better described currently as suburban, the closest major shopping and dining areas will be Brandon. Housing costs in south Tampa are extremely expensive. I work in IT in the public sector, best way to get into a private sector company is by contracting. I don't think any private sector companies hire anyone unless they have come in through a contracting company anymore. It is not easy to find IT jobs in my opinion in Tampa. I was unemployed for 2 years between 2003 & 2005. I did get one 3 month contract, this particular company churns through contractors at an amazing rate. The reason I say this because even after the company did not renew my contract, other contracting firms would call me up and describe a job and I would ask is it for XYZ Co.? It was, but they did not want anyone who had been a contract employee for them in the past. My suggestion is to find a place to rent for 6 months or so and see if the location suits your requirements.
