| Mannheim | Is Mannheim worth the visit? Posted: Sat August 2, 2003 07:08 PM UTC
I will spend three weeks in Germany starting this Tuesday. I have pretty much done all my schedule (I like to plan things). However, I have one day to spend between Paris and Munich. Heidelberg, Nuremberg and Wurzburg are out of the way since I am already visiting those cities.
I want a place that is not out of the way. I thought about Mannheim because the train stops there. But I don't know much about it!!!!! Do you think its worh the visit, or should I stop in stuttgart of ffort instead???? |

Hiya,
I have neither been to Mannheim nor to Stuttgart, but nevertheless I think Stuttgart might be the better choice for you ... It is just my opinion ... Oh well, I hope this helps a little bit ... HORSCHECK :-)

Mannheim itself is an industrial place. There are some nice house, some museums and the water tower. If you want to go shopping it is also a good place. And there are two nice parks.
But there are nicer places nearby: Schwetzingen has a beautiful castle with a park, Speyer is also worth a visit (nice cathedral, nice center, old city gate, jewish baths, ...) The weather forecast says, that it will be rather hot in the next days in the South of Germany. have a great trip! BTW: Whenever you decide to stop in Mannheim, we could meet for a coffee or a beer.

hi there,
agree with above. Mannheim is a nice place for shopping, but not so for sightseeing or spending a day. Speyer is nice, but You just need one hour for the museum, half for the Dom and five minutes for the rest of town. Stuttgart shure has more things to show. And as above, if You stop here, drop me a line and perhaps we can meet and I make Your guide for a few hours. have fun Gar

Hi,
Barbie in Heidelberg here. I have to agree with the other assesments of Mannheim. Great shopping, the Wasserturm (water tower) park is nice and the park along the Rhine River is quite nice but the city itself is not very historical. However, Ladenburg is close and is a very lovely town with very old homes, streets and churches. I recommend it as a visiting sight. If you are in Heidelberg let me know when and We could meet for a nice weinschole. I know HD very well and love it here! Have a great visit. Barbie in Germany
