| Central Croatia | Split versus Dubrovnik Posted: Thu February 8, 2007 01:48 PM UTC
We have three days flying into Zadar and we want to see "pretty, historical, architecture" in the area and are renting a car to drive around the area. We are planning to go to Split. The question is whether or not we have enough time to get to Dubrovnik as well and whether getting there is worthwhile in the short time we have or if we should stick to the Zadar and Split area and see more in and around there. This may be a once in a lifetime visit for us, so we don't want to miss anything that we MUST see, but at the same time we want to spend our time wisely. Please HELP!

Do you mean you have three days total?
Zadar is reportedly undergoing a bit of a renaissance, so it should be a good time to visit. From there you can travel south to Split (3 hour drive I think), perhaps stopping in Sibenik. Check out the town profiles on the croatian tourist board website and maybe you will find some other places you'd like to see. Many people will tell you Dubrovnik is a must see, but would you rather spend your three days driving or enjoying Croatia? If this trip is in summer there may be a lot of traffic.

Hello,
Three days is not much, so as said above, Dubrovnik is too far even it is beautiful. Besides Sibenik, Zadar and Split, You could visit Trogir on Your way:)

I agree with the above posts. In three days there is plenty to see in this area: Zadar, Sibenik, Krka, Trogir, Solin, Split....
Forcing to squeeze Dubrovnik in your itinerary will just add lots of driving and probably lots of stress - something you should avoid while on holiday.

I also agree with the above posts. Dubrovnik is far for the time you have.
But... you can choose Sibenik + Trogir + Split or opt for "something different" - I mean the Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia's most popular natural tourist attraction. The Park's greatest value and beauty comprises the sixteen beautiful lakes which flow into each other through a series of waterfalls, and the exceptional richness of the flora and fauna. The lakes' unique colours, ranging from emerald green to turquoise with the mountains around make a beautiful scene. It was one of my best nature UNESCO World Heritage experiences in the world. Whatever you choose, I know you will enjoy this lovely country.

Hello,
If You are in to these Unesco WH-sites, there are six in Croatia: UNESCO Heritaga in Croatia Croatia has several of it's important sites on Unesco's World Heritage List. These are: *Historic City of Trogir *The Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik *Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian *Old City of Dubrovnik - inscripted by UNESCO since 1979 *Plitvice Lakes National Park *Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre of Porec ..So in easy access You can see three first, and if Your intrest was in architecture more than in nature, keep it at coastline. Plitvice was great, but takes one whole day from Your schedule... You have to make choices! (But all of them are good!)
