| Pompeii | Pompeii Excursions? Posted: Wed February 7, 2007 09:02 AM UTC
Hi all,
I am staying in Sorrento over the weekend of 17th February, and am looking to visit Pompeii/Sorrento on the Sunday. My question is, is it better to book an excursion in advance, or make my own way there? I cant seem to find many excursion sites on the web for this, so should it be OK to jump on a coach when im there, and just pay on the day? |

You can go to Pompei on your own as I did long ago.

I don't get it. If you're staying in Sorrento, why would you want an excursion to Sorrento? Aren't you already there?
As for Pompeii, you can just catch the Circumvesuviana train (the ONLY train leaving Sorrento) and get off at Pompeii. You'll be right at the main gates. If you want a guided tour, see if you can join another group who are hiring a private guide (the guides are licensed by the government and wait at the entrance for customers).
