There are several ways you can reach the park. You can go from Altamira Square and take a detour circa two blocks away from it. From the Altamira detour to Los Venados, I have been said, it takes two hours approximately. This is just one alternative. Anyway, check http://www.el-avila.com for more info on routes and maps. Also, you can find descriptive photos. As regards a guide, if you consider it to be complicated, find one.

| Caracas | RE: how do i get to El Avila? Posted: Tue February 13, 2007 12:45 PM UTC Hi! I used to hike a lot El Avila, it's a very good place to hike! I strongly suggest to go up by foot!. There are several routes to get to the top, a well trained person can get from the foot of the hill ("Cota Mil", a highway going all the way across the foot of the hill)to the top in 1.5 hours, if you are not well trained it can takes you around 4 hours. To me the best route is from Sabas Nieves-No Te Apures-La Silla. La Silla is the top of the moutain, from there, you can get to Pico Occidental or Pico Oriental, respectively the third and second highests peaks of El Avila. Just remember that from Sabas Nieves and up you won't find a source of water. If you want any other information, just send me an email: dcolateral@hotmail.com
