| Andorra | Snow Conditions Posted: Tue February 6, 2007 08:14 PM UTC
I'm going to El tartar on sunday 11th Feb. It is going to be my first skiing holiday. I've been looking at snow reports on Ski Club of GB, it reports 30cm at the top. Is this good or bad?? I don't want to arrive at the top of the mountain to find there isn't enough snow to ski on.
Any one who has been recently (like last week) can you give me some discription and explaination on what the snow is like?? Also we havent booked our lessons, life passes or boot and ski hire yet, I've been going to a dry slope for about 5 months now and our instructor says you can do everything on the coach, is this possible?? What level of skiing will I be doing on what coloured runs by the end of the week. I can carve on a dy slope but I expect that I'll be starting from scratch?? Many Thanks |

I've not been to Andorra recently, but the snow conditions in all the slopes of the Pyrenees are terrible this year. 30 cm is near to nothing, but you can ski on this. They will probably add artificial snow every night if temperatures are low enough, at least to maintain this level. Do not worry as you'll have fun anyway! On the other hand I think it's impossible to say what level you'll have by the end of the week. It depends on you.... I mean some people learn faster than others, you may be more or less fit, and you may have more or less aptitude for this sport. The important thing is you have fun doing it, it does not matter if at the end of the week you're still on the blue slopes or you have tried some of the red ones (if the quality of the snow permits, if it's icy, forget to try these, a broken bone is no fun at all :)

Hi - i'm heading out to Soldau the week after you. The bad news is that 30cm isn't great, the good news is that its snowing at the moment and some snow is forecast for the next few days. The other good thing is that Andorra is good for snow cannons so any new snow fall they do get they add to it with artificial snow. As for ski hire etc, depending on which operator you are going with yes they will tend to book things on the transfer up to the resort. There is a hire shop at the bottom of the lifts at el tarter where you can get ski's etc but probably just as easy to go through travel company especially if they have a ski workshop within your hotel. Have fun and let us know when you get back as to what the conditions were like.
