Positano Travel Forum

We are staying in Positano in the fall and would like to arrive from Naples by Hydrofoil. Date October 14. This is a Sunday. Our villa is at the top of Positano on the road that leads from Sorrento. It is described as "three kilometers from center of town". If we were to arrive with luggage, would there be buses or taxis near the hydrofoil dock, or would this be a long difficult walk to reach a taxi or bus? Do you have any suggestions? Our Villa is not far from Hotel San Pietro. Thanks for your help!

From the dock, it's only about 100 meters to the main street where the taxi stand is. Just walk up the stairs toward the church (you can't miss it), and take a left in front of the church. Walk another 50 meters in the pedestrian walkway until you reach the main street.
There is a bus route, but it goes around in a loop at the main one-way streets. You may want to ask if your villa is on the bus route.
Avoid walking with heavy luggage in Positano - it's famous for its steep and trecherous steps.

Also be prepared if it is raining and the weather is rough that the hydrofoil will not go to Positano. This happened to us and we instead had to go to Sorrento and take a taxi to Positano.

I would get a porter to transport your luggage from the pier to your hotel. A good company is Blu Porter (they wear red shirts!!!) If there isn't a porter hanging around on the pier then their number is (+39)089 811496.It's about €5 per bag. Trust me it is worth it! It's a long hike up to the centre of Positano from the pier...and its seriously difficult lugging your luggage uphill over cobblestones and up steep steps. Leave it to the professionals! Enjoy a leisurely stroll up to Piazza Mulini from where you can either catch the local orange bus "Interno Positano" up and around Positano to your villa (as long as it is actually located within Positano) or to save any worry there are also taxis situated in the square that can take you there. If you take the taxi you can ask the porters to have your luggage waiting for you in the square where the porters are located. that way u can take your luggage with you in the taxi.

I forgot to mention in my original reply...Please may I clear up something I read from another Virtual tourist who replied earlier to your Q .... the dock is not 100 metres to the centre of town where the piazza mulini is located and the pedestrian zone ends and the road and traffic begins. You will find it easier to have a porter take your luggage for you up to the centre of town where u will find a bus or taxi to take you the rest of the way. I forgot to mention this in my original reply. I live in Positano and hope this information has helped you. Also I hope that I havent misunderstood the other VT's reply and don't wish to offend anyone.

This question is to OzinPos or anyone else who can help. I am reading conflicting information on Metrodelmare about when the hydrofoil stops running to Positano. I have read October 14 and September 9. Our concern is that we would actually be hoping to take the hydrofoil from Beverello to Positano on October 14! If this service is indeed stopping in September, what other options do we have from Jolly Hotel in Naples on Sunday morning Oct.14? Thanks for your help.
