York Buses from York to Conwy, Wales (Or England-Wales)
Posted: Sat February 3, 2007 01:36 AM UTC
I learned to know that buses are the cheapest way of travelling in England/Wales and will probably use that option from going to London-York. It's only about a 4 hours drive isn't it?

My real question was, how do i find bus routes from York to North Wales, for instance to Conwy? Have searched on the net but haven't found anything. It should also be possible to take a train from York to Conwy i think, but won't that be more expensive?
Bus routes from England to Wales in general would also be nice to have.

Thanks in advance:-)

Using the National Express website, I can find a bus from York to Llandudno via Leeds taking over 7 hours and costing £33. Click on the CAN'T FIND YOUR DESTINATION? tab on the left hand side and enter Llandudno.

http://www.nationalexpress.com/home/hp.cfm

Taking the train will see you going via Manchester with an APEX fare starting at £30 and a journey time of under 4 hours.

Coaches are generally cheaper, yes, but you have to factor in the time they take. They also only travel between certain places (which is why you couldn't find Conwy); you then have to get a local bus onwards.

You could get a local bus from Llandudno to Conwy (http://www.carlberry.co.uk/rfnshowl.asp?L1=LLA155 has links) but the train would be a much quicker way of getting there from York. www.nationalrail.co.uk or www.thetrainline.com for times and fares.

As for London-York, train is much quicker. Most NE coaches take around 6 hours and are incredibly boring compared to the 2,5 hrs train journey. As soon as I got a decent salary I started taking the train. You're not below 26 or travel with children? In that case there are great discount cards for train journeys.

Crossing England from East to West has always been harder than North to South which is why Wales is even more cumbersome to reach. If you DO go by coach, you could always go to Chester with the morning departure and spend some time there before hitting Wales if you want a break.
