| Karlsruhe | Travel to Karsruhe from Duesseldorf Posted: Fri February 2, 2007 07:25 PM UTC
Can someone help me with the best way to travel from the Duesseldorf (DUS) airport to Karlsruhe? We are flying out of the Karlsruhe-Baden airport and want to spend a short time in the Black Forest area. We are specifically interested in the ENZ river. Is Karlsruhe the best place to stay due to the airport, or is there a better place for one day and overnight siteseeing in the Black Forest. Thank you for your help.

Getting to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden:
Take the train: http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/i Enter DUS for Dusseldorf Airport in the "from" field. If I were you. I'd avoid Karlsruhe, the city was almost completely destroyed during WWII and was later quickly rebuild. Stay in either Baden-Baden or Freiburg im Breisgau. In doubt, I'd opt for Freiburg. It's basically the capital of the Black Forest. Due to it's University, it's less a "senior's city" like Baden-Baden which is a spa. Baden-Baden, however, is closer to river Enz. But the surrounding of Freiburg can easily compete. The beautiful Enztal is quite a bit more northwest.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e From: DUS To: Baden-Airpark Baden-Baden is closer to the Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) aka Baden-Airpark. Bus #205 connects Baden-Baden with the airport. http://www.baden-baden.de Of course you can stay also in the Enz valley. Which flows - seen from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden - to the rear side of the Black Forest. http://www.blackforest-tourism.com/ http://p9296.typo3server.info/ http://www.bad-wildbad-tourismus.de/

If you are flying out of Karlsruhe airport and want to see some of the Black Forest a good place to stay is Baden-Baden. As it is a fancy spa town it is also a bit on the expensive side however.
If you have a special interest in the river Enz then the spa town of Wildbad would be an option. A nice town in the northern part of the Black Forest. If you are on a budget you'll find cheap accommodation in guesthouses in smaller villages in the Black Forest. But then you need a car. I don't agree with Turtleshell that Karlsruhe should be avoided. Just have a look at my Karlsruhe page to see what it has to offer.
