Greetings from Dubai :-)

The Hotel seems good, but I'm not sure about the quality of food in the Sofitel... none of the people I know ever go there for dinner...

In my opinion, the best seafood can be found in these restaurants:

"Pier Chic" at Al Qasr Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah

Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Hotel (various restaurants)

"Al Dawaar" Revolving Restaurant in Hyatt Regency Hotel (near City Centre)

"Spectrum on One" in the Fairmont Hotel

But don't expect the seafood to be cheap here just because we are located by the sea. Lobster is still quite expensive and giant crabs have to be imported from colder waters (there are none here).

All the best,
Jess ('c',)

The place mentioned by Jess are spot on, and she's right about the price. When I was cooking there, we would sell a spiny lobster for about $65 US, Boston lobster ran about $50.
Try Spectrum on One and have the Thai steamed baby hammour. It's one of my favorites.
Also, check out Medzo in Wafi, or, there's a nice Italian bistro in the JW Marriott.

The hotel is excellent , five star and very comfortable just adjacent to a big shopping mall. Check their official web site on the following URL:

Well,
the Fairmont Hotel is definitely gorgeous, but I guess it will also be pricier than the Sofitel City Centre.

Some other good hotels in the same area as Fairmont are:

Al Murooj Rotana Hotel. (5-star)
Crowne Plaza Hotel. (4-star?)
Towers Rotana Hotel. (5-star)
Dusit Hotel (5-star)

Some cheaper alternatives:
IBIS World Trade Centre Hotel (3-star)
Capital Hotel.
Rydges Plaza Hotel.
Jumeirah Rotana Hotel.

Hope this helps,
Jess ('c',)
